Take a 3-hour trip on the waters off Port San Juan at the entrance to the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

In the 19th Century the Strait of Juan de Fuca earned the title of Graveyard of the Pacific as early mariners fought the winds, tides and fog along what became the world famous West Coast Trail. The West Coast Trail is a mariners' life-saving trail, open to serious hikers by reservation.

image of Grey Whales along the West Coast TrailHumpback Whales, Gray Whales, Whales, Dolphins and Sea Lions can be seen as we travel one of the most isolated and ruggedly beautiful sections of Vancouver Islands West Coast.

These marine mammals and exotic sea birds travel from Hawaii, Baja Mexico and Alaska in the spring and summer months to these rich feeding grounds to stock up the energy needed for their return migrations in the fall.

Gray Whales
The Eastern Pacific herd ranges from Mexico to the Arctic Ocean. They start their journey north in early February. Moving in small pods they cover about 60 km a day feeding close to the coastline til they reach their summer feeding grounds in the Bering Sea and Arctic Ocean. October signals the final 8,000 km return journey to the south where birth and mating is repeated.

Logan Creek

The returning Pacific salmon must all make their way to the streams of their birth thru the entrance of the Straits and migrating halibut appear like clockwork on to the offshore banks of Swiftsure and LaPerouse to feed on the large schools of needlefish, smelt, herring and anchovies.
